Our technicians link to the vehicles ECU or ‘brain’ with a laptop PC through the vehicles diagnostic socket and read the current engine management file which is then sent to our files office and optimised for you vehicle. We then program the new file optimised by Autotech into your vehicle and you have opportunity for yourself to experience the amazing results. On some vehicles it is not possible to carry-out this function via the diagnostic socket so in this case the ECU is removed and either a chip change or boot loading function is carried out, direct into the ECU. The final effect is exactly the same, only the process is different. Depending on the vehicle, the process normally takes less than 1 hour to complete. You can choose to visit us, or depending on your vehicle and location we may be able to carry out the work at your location.

Our re-mapping process enhances and optimises the power of the engine within safe limits, not beyond them. Extra power will also result in fewer gear changes. Manufacturers have to build in a tolerance for the parts in the engine, to manage the effect of wear and tear, production variations, and to ensure their warranty claims during their warranty period normally 3 years, are kept to a minimum.

Most race and rally engines are pushed for every last bhp, and thus they more common to fail, whilst normal car/van/lorry engines are limited back, well away from probability of multiple failures. Each individual engine is different as in how much it can be pushed in a remap, but a good ECU remap from a quality tuner will never get close the limits of component failure.

You will see that the top companies within the market place have all developed vehicle improvements to similar outputs. Beware of tuners who claim significantly more, it’s either lies hoping that the average customer wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, or the engine is being pushed too hard and will quickly become unreliable. Also beware of cheap remaps! a cheap final price means a cheap file writting team, which means your vehicles core operating parameters are at the mercy of a less experienced file writter.

Technically, modifying any part of a car can invalidate some or all elements of a manufacturer or approved used warranty. In most cases however, no physical modification will be made to your ECU as the remap can be uploaded via the OBD port. However while a car is under warranty and returning to a main dealer for service and updates, there is a possibility your map could be overwritten and lost, and if the vehicle is scanned by a dealer system it may flag up a software change to them automatically.

It is a legal requirement to tell your insurance company if you modify your car in any way, so you should. Some insurance companies will not penalise you for remapping your car, but ask them first if you are worried about the cost, they will be able to quote you before you go ahead.

We sell both our mapping service and tuning boxes, and both are very good products, the choice is mainly dependant on the vehicle in question and your preference. A tuning box is a good alternative option to remapping especially suitable for vehicles in warranty or on lease as it can be fitted or removed in minutes without trace and therefore not cause warranty issues. It works by modifying the signal from the fuel pressure sensor and boost pressure sensor sending the modified data back to the engine ECU, altering the turbo pressure and fuelling for the engine, much the same way as a map does.

However a remap alters all maps that are available to be modified in the ECU, for example, fuel at part throttle, fuel on acceleration, fuel rail pressure, turbo pressure, turbo overboost, torque limiters and much more. Tuning boxes although doing a very precise job, cannot alter the same level of parameters as a map. But as long as you’re looking at a good quality tuning box like ours, it wont cause any harm to your vehicle as some people might think.

What you have to remember is that the equipment needed to do the work is extremely expensive and companies have to get something back, we also offer excellent customer service and we are happy to help with any issues after the remap, we are not just a “flash and dash” company.

Think of it this way – customers are happy to spend £300 on an exhaust system and get 5 BHP. For around the same price or less we can give you upto 50 BHP on some cars (some even more!). Remapping and tuning boxes offer an incredible BHP:£ ratio, we challenge you to find a tuning solution that offers a better “bang for ones buck”

They have to produce a map that is highly tolerant of bad fuel and lack of servicing amongst other things. Here in the UK we have good fuel so we can optimise maps to suit. Manufacturers do actually supply the same engine in different car models with different power outputs, the only difference between them is the mapping.

Not really. Servicing your vehicle should be done as and when the manufacturer recommends. If we have provided you with a performance tune, we would usually recommend that a customer gives their car an additional oil change between services and also checks their air filter etc. this will also ensure you are getting the most of the map by keeping your vehicle in good health.
